We never see trees grow every centimeter, but we do notice when it suddenly stands tall.

Growth isn't big gestures, it’s about the micro-acts in your career that keep you from being replaced by Artificial Intelligence. Growth can happen every day, for anyone!

But sometimes we’re too distracted to even notice that we’re living yesterday’s dream. And technology? it doesn’t discriminate, you need to keep up with the times or risk getting left behind in the stone ages.

It requires many small changes, but growth itself is a different ballgame. Whatever you want to do, you have to do it scared, and sometimes you have to do it tired, but it has to be done anyway.

With AI and technology rapidly evolving, the accounting industry is facing a shake-up. Roughly 1.5 million individuals are employed by the Big 4 (Deloitte, KPMG, PWC, EY), and the other millions across the globe in SMMEs, how does one find that motivation to keep up the momentum?

Back in my trainee days, A friend of mine used to say: “Mzobe we don’t rest when we’re tired, we rest when we’re done”

Discipline is a daily prerequisite - as in, everything will fall apart without it. But discipline can be derailed by devastating events.

About 1 in 6 employers expect AI to reduce headcount in 2026, showing that AI job losses may continue.

You may ask yourself: “What will become of my career?”  One must be able to have uncomfortable conversations with oneself.

Here’s how you can ensure exponential growth for your career:

Manifestation and visualization - Imagine a better life

Dare to dream, The power of having a vision board and journaling , these are 2 things that goes a long way in keeping track of your growth. There’s evidence that 1 in 5 successful entrepreneurs use visual aids to achieve their goals.

I must say, when you are journaling/putting things on your vision board, precision and specificity matters.

Travel & work

One year, I said, “I want to travel internationally.” I had Mauritius in mind. But surprisingly, I ended up in UK. This is when I realized: growth happens when there is major clarity. Mind you, I wrote even though I had no passport whatsoever. But the universe, through Accensis and Buzzacott provided.

Pivot

If all else fails, it’s time to pivot. War, natural disasters and global pandemics have forced us from the comfort of secure jobs into thinking - “what can i do to avoid instability and certain doom?” - It’s accepting new opportunities, no matter what you imagined for yourself in the past. That version of life is not longer around.

A tip to cushion the landing: Those who plan their move for an average of 11 months, including networking and upskilling, are more successful than those who "cold quit".

I started my career in the auditing world. From senior auditor to now the accounting and consulting supervisor, all the skills i learned through my time at Accensis are now in my back pocket.

Why am I ready for the next step? Because of structured growth.
