All about the routine - how I get it right with my skincare

We tend to stress out about our bodies. We are concerned about the shininess of our hair, the neatness of our nails, and even what we eat.

However, people tend to ignore one of the most essential parts of our body, the skin. The largest organ in our body, the skin is vital in protecting us from the cancerous harm from UV rays. It's only fair that we return the favour – let's take care of it.

Taking care of our skin is very simple. You just need a routine - something achievable you can do every day.

Firstly, Identify your skin type.

To use the best products for your skin, you need to understand the kind of skin you have. Is your skin dry? Is it normal? Is it Oily? Is it sensitive? Is it a combination of oil and dry?

Nivea has a guide on identifying your skin type.

So now you ask yourself, "I have that information, what do I need next?"

Cleanser

We are exposed to dirt and pollutants that can clog our pores throughout the day. And as a reaction, your skin starts to produce sebum or oil protect the skin from damage.

With all the build-up from the day, you must invest in a good cleanser. This could be a liquid cleanser, facewash, a bar of soap, or shower gel. Some evidence suggests that  It just depends on which one you prefer.

Here are some tips on what to consider when choosing a cleanser

Exfoliation

Sometimes, cleansing is not enough. Scars, hyperpigmentation, and a rough surface texture – exfoliation can assist with giving your skin a shinier and smoother finish.

Please use your discretion and professional advice when choosing an exfoliator and the frequency of its use.

Moisturiser

This step is where you can achieve that soft, dewy look. The skin can quickly get dry and flakey, increasing the risk of skin conditions such as acne.

It is imperative to moisturise and hydrate your skin.

The list of moisturisers is endless. If you don't moisturise, your skin will compensate for the lack of moisture and produce oil.

So, if you feel that your skin is too oily for a moisturiser, think again! That could be the very problem.

Sun Protection

Overexposure of skin to the Sun's UV rays can increase the risk of sunburn. This could lead to various forms of skin cancer and other skin conditions.

Sunscreen plays a massive role in your skincare routine.

Especially now that we are on the verge of summer, sunscreen should be at the top of your cosmetics shopping list.

The most important thing about the skincare routine is discipline and consistency. For the best results I am trying to master, find products that work for you but won't break the bank. My gosh, cosmetics have become very expensive these days.

Next time you're going to shop, take your time and walk down those aisles to find the best products for your routine.

Best believe, your skin will thank you for valuing its health.

Definitely going to notice that glowing skin!
